After very successful operations at that point he sought a larger field in Missouri, and put up a saw mill at Buffington in the fall of 1881. Beginning with a mill of about thirty horse power and a force of from forty to fifty men, his business so increased that in 1886 he enlarged the mill to double its former capacity, but was still unable to meet the demand for lumber. Valentin Himmelberger arrived in Philadelphia from Amsterdam via Cowes (England) on 5 Oct 1737, on the ship "Bilander Townshead". Valentin located in Bern Township, Berks county, Pennsylvania, had a farm there and raised a family.

According to some sources, William Heavenhill was born in the midst of a surprise Indian attack that forced his mother to flee their home on September 15, 1783. In the woods, underneath a waterfall where she was hiding, she gave birth to William.
For William Heavenhill, distilling was a family tradition. By some accounts, Heavenhill corn whiskey supplied Bardstown’s historic Talbott Tavern in the early 1800s. In fact, the same spring William used to make his Bourbon was the spring that inspired the company’s first name: The Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery.

There is information in a history book of Berks County that records that Valentin's brother joined him in 1749 from the ship Patience arriving 19 september 1749 (There is a 'Jerg Himelberger' listed, he also made his mark).
Could find no other record of Georg either burial, census, marriage, children, will or church. It would be easy to see him dieing shortly after arrival and being buried on the family land perhaps. There is also a story of a group that left and went to New York and perhaps George was part of that.
Records of the German Reformed Church of New York City from the 1750s and 1760s have been published in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. The issue of January 1997, page 60, says: "Himmelsberger/: Georg:/ Barber and Wigmaker. Native of Hagenburg, yet
unmarried. NB. Moved to the West-Indies.". Most of the records transcribed in this article are dated 1765, 1766 and 1767. Is Georg Himmelsberger of New York the brother of Valentine
Himmelberger?
Several members of the German Reformed Church in New York City came from Hagenburg/Hagueburg/Haagenburg/Haagenberg. (probably Hachenburg) One member came from "Staugenburg in Hesse." (probably Staufenberg), both places are circa 200 km from Schriesheim Schriesheim is south of Frankfurt, Hachenburg and Staufenberg are north of Frankfurt.

I have more information on Jonathan Himmelberger. While searching the records on Ancestry.com I found the burial records for Salem Belleman's Graveyard. In those records is Jonathan Himmelberger. He was born May 15, 1791 and died December 5, 1861. He is in an unmarked plot #70-6-20. There is an Elizabeth Himmelberger listed as the wife of Jonathan Himmelberger born December 4, 1787, died December 20, 1866. She is also in an unmarked plot. THere was no maiden name listed. I will continue to search.

Garfield, in Centre township, and there still makes his home. He is
an excellent mechanic, being a carpenter, blacksmith and shoemaker.
He followed carpentering many years, and built many dwellings in his
and surrounding townships. His shop was a boon to farmers for many
miles around, who went there to have shoes repaired, carpenter work
done or blacksmithing. He married Rebecca Richard, and they had nine
children: Adam, Daniel, Franklin R., Levi, John, Morris, Joel, George
and Sarah (m. Milton Speicher).
Reared at Lancaster as a boy, Isaac Himmelberger received not more than a common school education. When he was eighteen years old he moved with his parents to Meyerstwon, Pennsylvania, and there he was later assooiated with his father in the milling buisness, and still later with an uncle, Levi Hain, in the grain buisness. From Meyerstown he came to Indiana in 1876, and with Levi Hain, Henry Sherk and John Myers, engaged in the lumber business about two miles north of the twon of Walton, in TIpton county. Here they established a sawmill in the swamp, acquired a tract of three hundred and eighty acres, and at once began to convert the towering timber into lumber. When the work here had been completed and the supply of raw material been exhausted, Mr. Himmelberger and Perry Kessling leased a tract of land near Onwar, there erected a mill, and began the work of sawing as they had done near Walton. Mr. Himmelberger then came to Loganspoprt and in partneship with Mr. Dewey, built a mill and established a genetal lumber business, buying timber throughtout the entire country surrounding them. It was during this time, in 1878, that he became the candidate of the Republican party for the office of sheriff of the county, and notwithstandning the fact that the nominal Democratic majority in the county waw something like six hundred, Mr. Himmeberger was elected. He served a two year term in the office of Sheriff, and it was during this period that he bought out his partner's interests in the business. Soon after his retirement from office he went to Buffington, Missouri and there started a sawmill, mvoing the equipment from Loganspot to the Missouri town, to augment the equipment of the milla lready in operation there. A few years later he formed a partnership with John Burris in the stave business at Dexter, Missorui, in conncetion with his other business, and this partnership existed but a comparatively short time, bbut Mr. Himmelberger still continued the lumber business at Buffington, Missouri, and later at Morehouse, Missouri, a place of which he was really the founder and bulder. His som JOHN, was associated with him at these two latter places. At Morehouse he built one of the largest hardwood lumber plans ever known in the southwest, if not, indeed, in the entire country. They acquired approcximately 100,000 acres of land and at times emploued more than two ohundred mill hands. Mr. Himmellberger, whilel yet in the prime of life and while the future yet held glowing promise of attainment, was suddently stricken with an illness which culmlinated in his death on July 16, 1900.
His was a life that held many lessons. He began his independent careert without other means than his own courage and willing hands. His courage never faltered in all the yyears of his activity, and repeatedly he was called upon to overcome obstacles that would have overwhelemed many with dima, and would have been the sure defeat of many another. Through all the years he steadily pressed forward, acheiving a succedd far beyond that which the average man meeets. At no toime was the honesty and fairness of his dealings ever questioned. With him "whatever was worth doing at all was worth doing will" and that old axiom he held up for the constant asmonition of all who were associated with him in his work. He died as he had lived, - an honored and respected citizen, and his intimely death was deeply mourned by all who come within the circle of his acquaintance.
They receive orders constantly from Northern Illinois and Iowa for plow material, also wagon stuff for Kentucky and Illinois. The gum which the firm handles, finds a ready sale in the Chicago and New York markets. On the Mill floors they employ about thirty men, about thirteen men on the nine miles of railway into their timber land, on which an engine and twenty cars are run, and also a force of thirty men in the woods in charge of a foreman or contractor. Mr. Isaac Himmelberger was elected sheriff of his county in Indiana, and also served as councilman at Logansport, Ind. Catherine Hoak became his wife, and among the eight children born to them, four only are living: John H., Jennie (now Mrs. S.A. Fisher), Lillie and Nettie. Mr. Himmelberger lives at Logansport, where he owns considerable property, besides over 10,000 acres of land about the Buffington Mills. John H. was born in 1861 and has always lived with his father, whose partner he as now become. When the mills were first established, he came here as bookkeeper and manager, but in 1887 became a partner, and has since had charge of their Stoddard County business.
The father was educated in Pennsylvania and his son in Indiana. The father and mother are members of the Universalist and Reformed Churches, respectively.

Franklin R. Himmelberger was reared on his father's farm, where he worked until he was nine years old, after which he was hired out and worked for different farmers until he was nineteen years old, when he learned carriage blacksmithing from Daniel Rapp, the well-known carriage builder at Reading. He remained in Mr. Rapp's employ for six years, and in 1885 he opened a small blacksmith shop at the west end of the Penn street bridge, where he followed his trade two years. In 1887 he associated himself with George H. Smith under the firm name of Himmelberger & Smith, and this firm existed for a period of thirteen years, engaged in carriage building and general wheelwrighting, being very successful from the start. When the Belt Line was built through West Reading, it passed through this firm's property, and the firm was mutually dissolved. Mr. Himmelberger built a large plant at the corner of Second and Cherry streets, West Reading, to which he has been adding ever since.
The first buildings were erected in April, 1901, but the constantly increasing business has demanded much larger quarters. The main building is 40 x 100 feet in dimensions, four stories high, with cement basement. There is also a four-story repository 48 x 60 feet, and several other annexes making the total amount of floor space about 36,000 square feet. He employs from twenty-five to thirty-five skilled mechanics, and he makes a specialty of market and delivery wagons, heavy wagons and light pleasure rigs. His establishment is equipped with all the latest improved machinery, drying oven, ware houses, shedding, etc. Besides handling all childs of vehicles Mr. Himmelberger carries a complete line of harnesses, blankets, whips, etc. He does work for a number of prominent business men, such as Kline, Eppihimer & Co., Leinbach & Bro., Sternbergh & Son, Dives, Pomeroy & Stewart, W. H. Ludens, Whitners, Mould's, undertakers Seidel & Henninger, George F. Baer, A. L. Rhoads and many others. He is a thorough business man, and is the largest individual carriage builder in the county.
In March, 1882, Mr. Himmelberger married Alwilda Gabriel, of Earlville, later of Reading, daughter of Evan and Elizabeth (Becker) Gabriel. Four children have blessed this union: Libbie V., Beulah R., Ruth A. and Martha M. Socially Mr. Himmelberger is a member of Fidelity Chamber No. 5, Knights of Friendship; and Camp No. 212, P. O. S. of A., both of Reading. In politics he is a Democrat. When West Reading was incorporated into a borough, and the people were looking for a conservative man for their first chief burgess, they unanimously selected Mr. Himmelberger for that responsible position, May, 1907. The work of his administration has been marked by progress and by a business-like conduct of affairs, giving great satisfaction to the people. With his family Mr. Himmelberger belongs to the First Reformed Church of Reading, in which he is a member of the consistory, holding office since 1889. He was confirmed in Belleman's Union Church in Centre township in 1876. He is a consistent Christian gentleman, and is regular in his attendance at divine worship.
